HHS studies Tuina Bodywork in Shanghai, China

Jodi, Jessica and Leah traveled to China in April to study Tuina Bodywork at the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Our focus was learning protocols to alleviate the symptoms related to chronic pain.

We had the amazing opportunity to intern in the hospital every morning with numerous Tuina Doctors. Every afternoon we had a lecture from a series of Doctors including the following topics; Treatment of Diabetes with Tuina, treatment of shoulder pain and low back pain, treatment of neck pain and finally a lecture about facial rejuvenation using Tuina techniques.

In China, the Tuina therapists are Doctors, they study for a minimum of 7 years to complete their training. Leah, Jessica and I were able to experience working alongside the Tuina Doctors for two weeks. Patients would visit the outpatient clinic two to three times a week, much like physical therapy treatments here in the US.

The trio is excited to return to San Diego with a new way to help those who suffer from the many symptoms related to chronic pain.

Gator by the Bay

On Mother's Day (2006, 2007 & 2008), we had a lot of fun providing chair and table massages at Gator by the Bay – a Zydeco Blues & Crawfish Festival.  We helped people relax and enjoy themselves as they spent their day listening to live entertainment, watching a Mardi Gras parade, enjoying Zydeco dance lessons, and eating traditional Louisiana food. The only thing missing was the bayou.

Scheduled main stage performers included 145th Street Blues, Leon Chavis, Theo & The Zydeco Patrol, Bayou Brothers Curley Taylor, Billy Watson, Sue Palmer & Motel Swing Band, Jump Jones, Curly Taylor, Bill Magee Blues Band and more. Click here for more information: http://www.sandiegofestival.com/
